Lighting systems for car parks and parking lots must first ensure the safety and security of vehicles. This is especially true to large underground parking areas and complexes, where the light is on all day and night.

2. BASIC PRINCIPLES
Entry / exit parking lots and parking areas require high light, because they relate to areas with high risk of traumatic – in the daytime average horizontal luminance shall not be less than 100 lux. The level of natural light at the entrance / exit of the parking lot should be not less than 200 lux. Otherwise, it is supplemented by artificial lighting. At night, a minimum illumination level of 60 lux, should be considered for areas of traffic, and 30 lux for general public areas.
Areas such as payment desks and terminals, elevators, stairs and other places that get crowded demand more intense light – here it is necessary to ensure minimum horizontal ground luminance levels of 60 lux; and cylindrical illumination levels should be no less than 10 lux.
Parking areas’ lighting intensity depend largely on vehicular traffic. Parking lots with low traffic are illuminated at 7 lux, large parking at 15 lux. Cylindrical illumination levels, regardless of the type of parking should not be less than 4 lux. Parking with heavy traffic require light at 60 lux (horizontal luminance) and 10 lux (cylindrical luminance). Thus, it is necessary to pay attention to a uniform distribution of light flux to avoid a rough directional light negative effect on traffic safety.
